Obituary of Richard Parker Hadley

RICHARD PARKER HADLEY, 90 Richard Parker Hadley, 90, of Maplewood, NJ and Ocean View, DE, died at home on July 29th. Although born in Tottenville, NY, he was a lifetime resident of Maplewood, NJ. He was in the first class of the newly constructed Jefferson School, and graduated from Columbia High School, Oberlin College, and Columbia University Law School. A specialist in Trusts and Estates and former senior partner of Reynolds, Richards, a Wall Street law firm, he inspired many young people as an adjunct professor at New Jersey State College. He published numerous expert articles on taxation, and was a member of the Downtown Association in New York City. Mr. Hadley was long active in civic affairs, having served on the Maplewood Board of Adjustments, Budget Advisory Committee, and Arts Maplewood, and as President of the Morrow Church Board of Trustees. He also served on the Foundation Board of the former Hospital Center at Orange and Summit Bank, as well as the Metro YMCA, Girl Scouts and Planned Parenthood. He was active in the Boy Scout Council and Maplewood Kiwanis Club. A lifelong tennis enthusiast, he was a Board member of Orange Lawn Tennis Club and The Maplewood Club and was also active at Bethany Club Tennis in Delaware. Mr. Hadley is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Thelma West Hadley, daughter Carol Baker of Lake Oswego, OR, sons Richard P. Hadley, Jr. of Los Angeles and John West Hadley of Somerville, NJ, five grandchildren, and one great grandson. Friends may visit with the family at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home 2122 Millburn Ave, Maplewood on Wednesday, Aug 2nd from 7 to 9 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at Morrow Memorial Church, 600 Ridgewood Road, Maplewood on Thursday Aug. 3rd at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Metro YMCAs of the Oranges, 139 E. McClellan Ave., Livingston, NJ 07039, or the Memorial Fund at Morrow Memorial Methodist Church in Maplewood.
