Harry A. Ashworth III Phd, 62 of Summit formerly of East Hanover on Sunday, September 3, 2006 Born in Rochester New York, he received a BS degree in Physics from the University of Rochester, and a Ph.D in Physics from Carnegie Mellon University. A faculty member at Seton Hall University from 1970 to his retirement in 2002, he served as Department Chairperson for several years, as Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and held visiting appointments during sabbatical years at Princeton University and the NJ Neuroscience Institute at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He began the Astronomy program at Seton Hall, building the University's first observatory with several students in the early 1970's. He co-authored two textbooks, and co-authored with various colleagues and students many refereed articles on topics including Electronics , Instrumentation, and bio-Physics, but was best known on campus for his large lecture and demonstration courses in Astronomy and Physics for Science Majors. He continued his association with Seton Hall & a contributor in recent years to to the Center for Applied Catalysis. A resident of East Hanover for nearly thirty years, he had lived in Summit NJ since 2004. He is survived by his wife Norma, Uncle and Aunt Mr. and Mrs. George Ashworth of Oriskany NY, several cousins, nephews and nieces and their families. There will be a Memorial Mass at The Chapel Of The Immaculate Conception At Seton Hall University, 400 South Orange Ave, South Orange on Fri, Sept 8th at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home 153 South Orange Ave, South Orange on Thursday, 3-5 & 7-9 PM , .
