Elizabeth Mele Fabrizio, 88, of Maplewood died on Friday, May 4, 2007, in Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, on Tuesday, May 8, at 11 a.m. Interment is in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Born in Lawrence, Mass., Mrs. Fabrizio lived in South Orange before moving to Maplewood 50 years ago. She received a B.S. degree in science and education from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station and taught elementary grades at Our Lady of Sorrows school in South Orange and then at Sacred Heart school in Vailsburg from 1956 until she retired in 1991. She received a service award recognizing her 35 years of teaching in the Archdiocese of Newark. Mrs. Fabrizio was a member of the National Education Association and the National Association of Catholic Teachers. She was a founding member of Boy Scout Troop 10 and one of the first den mothers of Pack 3, both at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in South Orange.
She was the beloved wife of Samuel Fabrizio and the late Vincent J. Mele Jr., M.D., and the devoted mother of Vincent J. Mele III, John H. Mele, C. Michael Mele, Paul Mele and the late Robert J. Mele; loving mother-in-law of Kathy, Susan and Gayle Mele; dear sister of Vivian LaChance and the late Rita Schiavone and John Moore. She is also survived by four grandchildren, one greatgrandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
