Obituary of Ukpong U. Idiong

Ukpong U. Idiong, 61, of Newark died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, in University Hospital, Newark. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1600 Springfield Ave., Maplewood, on Saturday, Aug. 18, at 12 noon. Interment will take place in Nigeria. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 to 11:45 a.m. only. Arrangements are by the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, Maplewood. He was a teacher with the Jersey City Board of Education at P.S. 29 Middle School for many years. Mr. Idiong earned a bachelors of science degree in education in 1984, and masters degree in special education in 1985, both from Central State University in Edmond, Okla. He was the first president and patron of the Akwa Ibom State Association, Northern N.J. Chapter. Mr. Idiong was the beloved husband of Susannah Idiong (nee Kendrick Udo) and devoted father of Margaret E. Awak, Dora O. Ita, Idongesit, Blessing, Mfonobong, Kufreabasi Idiong and Ntienseobot Idiong (Ekere). He is also survived by two brothers and 15 grandchildren.
