A Tribute to Aunt Marie
Lavender was her favorite color.
The Yankees were her team. She loved Roger Maris, Mickey Mantle, and Yogi Berra.
She liked extra hard back scratches and Sanka with saccharin.
One of her favorite songs was “I’m Lookin’ Over a Four-leaf Clover.â€
She usually had a parakeet named Pat that would sit on her shoulder.
She walked Tippy, the black cocker spaniel, every morning before daybreak.
That was all a long time ago.
She would rather be home than anywhere else. That never changed.
She had a niece.
She was my pen pal and she had great stationery with pictures on the envelopes.
She sat on the floor with me and played jacks.
She took me to the movies.
She taught me to make pudding and put wax paper on top.
She wore an apron in the kitchen.
Every Sunday of every summer I walked with her to Sacred Heart Church.
She deeply loved and respected her mother – my grandmother.
She helped me learn good manners.
She was my very special Aunt Marie. Her life made a difference in mine.
I told her that, but she probably never understood how much.
Thank you, Aunt Marie.
With love from your only niece,
Audry
