To the Hempstead family,
I have just received this very sad and truly tragic news about Tom. He was a student in my architecture studio this past spring. Tom was highly admired by his fellow classmates as a leader. He stood out, for me, as diligent and thoughtful as well as appropriately skeptical! We will all miss Tom at NJIT.
At his desk in studio, Tom displayed photos of his two beautiful sons. He was always quick (with only little prompting from me) to speak about them with great joy!

I had no idea Tom had passed away. I was an intern at ABC under Tom during the summer of 2002. Tom was great to work with and super helpful as a mentor. I feel really lucky to have known him. He was a great person!
