Joseph N. Speranza, 98, of New York City, formerly of Millburn, died on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009 at home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima Church, 50 Short Hills Ave., Short Hills, on Monday, Jan. 19, at 11:15 a.m. Interment is private. Visitation will be held at The Jacob A. Born in Millburn, Mr. Speranza lived there before moving to New York City 43 years ago. He was a stock exchange specialist for C.A. Durand, Durand & Cullen and Beachamp & Co., New York City, and worked on the New York Stock Exchange for 54 years, retiring in 1974. He had also worked as a page at the NYSE in 1929.
Mr. Speranza was the beloved husband of Cecile Petitjean Driscoll Speranza; devoted father of Elaine Pultz, Joanna Nittolo and Diane Driscoll, SSJ; also survived by nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren; he was the dear brother of Virginia Tracey, Rose Russo and Anthony Speranza.
