Mrs. Hortenzia L. Pogany, 90, of South Orange died on April 12, 2009, at home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, on Wednesday, April 15, at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Born and raised in Budapest, Hungary, Mrs. Pogany left there in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution and lived in South Orange for 47 years. She was the chief catalogue librarian at Seton Hall University from South Orange from 1960 to 2008, when she retired. Mrs. Pogany received a B.A. in Latin and Greek from Peter Pazmany University in Budapest, Hungary, and a master's in library science from Rutgers University. A devout Catholic, she was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, South Orange, and its Rosary Society.
She was the beloved wife of the late Andras Pogany and devoted mother of Aniko G. DePierro, Ildiko P. DeAngelis, Andrew T. and Anton C. Pogany, Ursula M. Pogany-Simnett and John Pogany. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
