Obituary of Samuel J. Fiore, Jr.

Samuel Joseph Fiore entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 24, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, NY, NY. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday, Jan. 27th, 2011 at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Jan. 28th at 9AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. A resident of Aventura, Florida, Sam was born and raised in the Village of South Orange to the late Filomena and Sabino Fiore. He graduated from Columbia High School and retired after 25 years from the South Orange Fire Department. Upon his retirement he had several successful businesses which are the legacy for his children. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War. He served as a member of the South Orange Democratic County Committee for many years and was active in many township civic organizations including the Italian American Savoy Club in South Orange. Upon his retirement, he served as Vice President of the Mystic Pointe Association and enjoyed weekly golf and card games with his loyal friends and neighbors. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Renee Kelner, his two loving sons, David and his wife Melissa, and Michael, and his wife Lillian and five cherished grandchildren, Alex, Gaby, Samantha, Harrison, and Nicole. He is predeceased by his parents and brothers, Joseph and William and sisters, Christine DiTullio, Mary Colineri, and Carmela Quadrell. He is also survived by his brother Albert Fiore and sisters, Margaret Fiore, Gloria Lyons, and Jean Gailey as well as many nieces and nephews.
