Obituary of Betty S. Peterman

Betty Shogren Peterman, 88, passed away at home in Maplewood, N.J., on January 13, 2019.
Betty was born in Alexandria, Minn., to Bertha and Herman Shogren. She graduated from Alexandria High School in May of 1948 and Lutheran Bible Institute, Minneapolis, in 1950.
Betty worked for the Lutheran church her entire life as an administrative assistant, starting with Lutheran-related colleges and local congregations. From 1954 to 1961 she worked for the Lutheran Bible Institute. She then worked from 1961 to 1964 for the Augustana Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, and from 1964 to 1986 for the Lutheran Church in America in New York City. She was a dedicated church worker. She also was a lifelong worker, volunteer and supporter of Camp Mahetu in New York State.
She married on November 24, 1985, to The Rev. Dr. Richard Lee Peterman, who died in August of 1997.
She is survived by three stepchildren, Richard L. Peterman Jr., Rebecca Lynn Johnsen, and David Dean Peterman and their seven children and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church at 587 Springfield Ave. in Summit, N.J., on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at 11 a.m.
