Obituary of John J. O'Cone, Sr.

John J.  O'Cone, Sr., 93 of South Orange passed away on November 16, 2019 at Bartley Health Care in Jackson, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady Of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange on Thursday, Nov 21st  at 10:30 AM. Interment is Private.  Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home 153 South Orange Ave, South Orange on  Wednesday, 4:00 - 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905 would be apprecatiated. John was born in Springfield, NJ in 1926. He entered the Navy when he was 17 years old, and served during WWII on the USS Yorktown in the South Pacific.He was a carpenter in the in the Millburn area before becoming a paid Firefighter for the South Orange Fire Department where he proudly served along side his devoted brothers in-law, nephew and life long friends.

He was pre-deceased by his wife of 67 years Mary A. DeCicco and his daughter Michele Alexis O’Cone. He is survived by his loving daughters and sons, Joanne O’Cone Ryan and her husband Patrick “PJ” Ryan, John James O’Cone, Jr. and his wife Margo, Diane Fastiggi and her husband Michael Fastiggi, and Michael Alexander O’Cone. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Jennifer And Patrick Ryan, Patricia, Kimberly and John O’Cone, Michael, Rebecca and Matthew Fastiggi, and Rachel Wassermann. And, all of his beloved great grandchildren, Evelyn, Kathryn, Corinne, Oona, Mara, and John Peter.
