Dear Terri and family:
You have our sincerest condolences. Joe's kindness radiated and touched everyone blessed enough to meet him. We are all grateful for the gradual intertwining of our family's lives. In spite of Joe's health, he always made time to bring Buddy over to visit with Bill. Those kinds of acts of kindness in the face of adversity speak to a man's legacy. We're surely not the only people he touched, and his memory will live on in all of us.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace.
Jo Jo, We all loved you and will miss your full of life attitude. I will sincerely miss our back country fishing and you yelling "Jimmy Houston" with each catch. Make sure brother Tony is doing a great job when you see him and may God bless Terri and your entire family.

"A TRIBUTE TO MY LITTLE BROTHER JOE"
Joe loved life and family to the fullest. No matter what obstacles that came his way. He always made sure that he had time for family and friends. You could always count on Joe to help you out and be by your side. He had a contagious smile and winning personality that always made you feel at ease and you wanted to be around him. He enjoyed belting out an oldies tune and telling a good story to make you laugh.
The world is just a little darker now but heaven just got a whole lot brighter.
Out lives will be forever changed by Joe's passing and a void in our hearts. He is now our guiding light from above looking down on us. We will miss you Joey, till we meet again.

REMEMBERING JOEY: There is nothing anyone can say to add to or diminish the awe-inspiring but far too brief life of our beloved brother, Fire Chief Joseph "Joey" Richardella. And yet for those of us who were so fortunate to know him, it is equally impossible NOT to speak of him. Joe was so many wonderful things to so many people; a loving son, devoted husband, nurturing father and uncle, trusted brother and loyal friend - all to say the least. As a firefighter and company officer he exemplified the qualities of courage, intellect, perseverance and dependability. As a Fire Chief he led with a leader's mind and a servant's heart. It would be difficult if not impossible to single-out Joe's most significant impact on our lives...there are countless examples...but for me, it was his unyielding strength in the face of adversity and his unique capacity to find so much beauty and joy in the world around us (I know that is actually TWO things, but I did say it would not be easy to narrow it down). Admittedly, it's very sad and even somewhat frightening to think of a world without Joey Richardella; but I believe the sorrow and fear we are feeling today will in time be replaced with a true sense of happiness and peace in the knowledge that a real and meaningful part of Joe remains in all of us (and perhaps a part of us with him). In any event, one thing is for certain and that is Joe would want us to remember him with the kind of good will, joy, and spontaneity in which he lived out his life. I respectfully submit that the best way we can honor his memory is to carry on as he did --- caring, sharing and when warranted, unapologetically daring.
WE LOVE YOU, JOEY Your friend and brother, Don Huber, Irvington Fire Department, retired

My condolences to Terri and their children. Never met Joe personally; however, knew him well through his late mother-in-law who considered him her own and sang his praises. He'd be embarrassed at how much Marilyn bragged on what a wonderful husband and dad he was. Of course, with her own dad being a Fire Chief, that made Joe all the more special for the vocation he chose as do all firefighters who put their lives on the line, daily, for our well being.
Maryilyn Steitz asked years ago that I keep Joe in prayer and I have done that. My greatest gift to Joe and his family is a Mass that will be offered by me for his eternal repose and the family's consolation in their conviction that Jesus Christ is Risen and thus so whall we be when He comes again in Glory.
