In loving memory of Juliana (Julie) Brekke, Seattle native, who died peacefully on May 3rd in West Orange, New Jersey due to complications of dementia.
Julie was born on March 29, 1938 to Philip and Elizabeth Jacobsen. She attended Lincoln High School and the University of Washington, where she completed a degree in Elementary Education. She worked as an elementary school teacher in the Mukilteo School District for nearly 30 years, and after retirement continued to work as a teacher in the Small Faces pre-school in North Seattle.
Julie loved children and enjoyed gardening, going to art museums, the symphony, theater and walking her dogs around Seattle’s Green Lake. During the last years of her life Julie moved to New Jersey to be near her daughter and family. Despite her illness, she enjoyed seeing her family and going for drives to parks where she could view the New York City skyline.
She was predeceased by her husband Eugene Brekke and her sister Karen Gerard and is survived by her daughter Alison Price-Rom, son-in-law Erhard Rom, grandson Ethan Rom and cousins, nieces and nephews on both the Stewart and Jacobsen sides of the family.
A memorial will be held in Seattle, WA at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may go to the Alzheimer’s Association in either New Jersey or Washington State.
