Rose Marie Deehan née DePaola, 93, daughter of Edward DePaola and Catherine Silla, passed away surrounded by her family at St. Barnabas Hospital on Tuesday, October 6, 2020. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church 217 Prospect Street, South Orange on Friday, October 9, 2020 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.  Due to capacity limitations brought on by current circumstances, the Funeral Mass will be private and by invitation only.  

 

Rose Marie was born in Newark and had lived in South Orange since 1966. She is a graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar School, St. Vincent’s Academy (1946), The College of St. Elizabeth (BS Economics 1950) and was awarded an honorary degree from Seton Hall Prep (1985).

 

Rose was a Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre and a devout Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. She was also an avid fan of Seton Hall basketball, an active participant and leader in the Serra Club of the Oranges, the Rosary Society of Our Lady of Sorrows, the Women’s Guild of Seton Hall University, and the Bayley Seton League of Seton Hall University as well as her bible study group, class mom, CCD teacher and PTA/Mother’s Club president countless times.

 

 

Her love of God and family were first and foremost in her life. She was predeceased by her husband John P. Deehan and children Jack, Catherine Anne and Edward J. Deehan (Theresa Michalak) and her siblings Anne DelNegro and Frank DePaola (Katherine Perri). Rose is survived by her daughters Mary Frances Salvante (Daniel), Rosemarie  Berard (Mark) and Patrice E. Deehan; sons Paul G. (Kim Feeley), Robert F. (Lynda Dedoussis), Michael A. Deehan MD (Cathy LoMonaco), and Stephen T. Deehan, DMD (Yvonne Marchese); siblings Edward DePaola (Anne Criscuolo) and Jean Gonsalves (Gerard); 22 grandchildren Johanna Bellomo (Eric), DJ (Susan Cicenia) Salvante, Nick (Justine Pecora) Salvante, Robin Deehan, Sean Deehan, Joseph Deehan, Jackie Deehan, Julia Deehan, Christopher Deehan, Andrew Deehan, Elizabeth Deehan, Michael Deehan, Matthew Deehan, Emily Deehan, Jillian Berard, Lucas Berard, Lauren Berard, Mia Berard, Patrick Deehan, Christian Deehan, Stephen Deehan, Noelle Deehan; 3 great grandchildren Francesca, Lorenzo and Sophia Salvante and many additional “children/grandchildren” incorporated by love.
