Condolences to Mark, and the entire Mattheiss Nation on the passing of the patriarch to one of South Orange’s all-time great families. Mr. & Mrs. Matthiess always had their home open to others, serving as the setting for some of life’s special memories growing up. Grateful for the example and influence of faith, kindness and community extended to me and to so many.

I am so deeply sorry for the loss of Walt. Some of my fondest memories were lived at "265," and how Walt was a hero protecting the porch (and people) during some of the parties we had there. lol Seriously, a beautiful man, devout believer in God and our Catholic faith, a wonderful husband to a beautiful woman, and the father to children who are all amazing, wonderful, and loving people. Walt's life to me is simply defined in the following: "Well done, good and faithful servant!" My prayers and sympathies to the entire family!!! Bob and Michele Bianchi

Deepest condolences to the Mattheiss Family, your Dad was a terrific guy and a true gentleman. I remember him from the SOPD Reserves and Seton Hall Security, as well as Our Lady of Sorrows and the Knights of Columbus- always a smile and a good word for everyone.
