Obituary of Renate M. Wels

Renate M. Wels, 81, of New York City passed away peacefully at home on January 7, 2021. Renate was born in Austria and had lived in Maplewood for 35 years before moving to New York City 8 years ago. She received her Masters in Education from Hunter College and was the German Teacher at Newark Academy in Livingston for over 20 years, retiring in 2010. Affectionately known as “Frau” to everyone at N.A., Renate was known for her sense of humor and compassion for her students. Renate was predeceased by her husband Stuart Wels and her beloved son James R. Wels. She is survived by her daughter Kristina Kahn of New York City.
