It is difficult to comprehend that Ed Reuter, a man of immense generosity, decency, and compassion has been taken from us too soon. We selfishly want more time to enjoy his smile and hear his laughter and his many stories. We selfishly want to seek out his guidance about where to find the best meatball sandwich in Hoboken, the best pizza in Jersey City, the latest sensation in New York. Ed sought out the best places to go and could be counted to offer three or four suggestions. He genuinely wanted you to have a great meal and a great time savoring the best.
Now, sadly, Ed Reuter, one of the best of men, has been taken from us. So we now are left to carry on his legacy by offering each other, and anyone we meet, a warm, joyful Eddy Reuter smile that says, “I’m so glad to see you again, looking so well.”
Ed is deeply missed by acquaintances, friends, and family. My condolences to Kate, Ellen, and Ed's extended family.
Neil Fiore, a friend since our first meeting at Marist High School

Our condolences to Ed's family and friends on your loss - Ed was a wonderful gentleman who who surely be missed. We were honored to have known Ed during the many years we lived on the "Best Block in Maplewood" together. I particularly enjoyed my brief but frequent conversations with Ed as one or the other of us was walking through the neighborhood, he was an excellent conversationalist who always had something interesting to offer. May he rest in peace. Jeff and Mauria Kunkel

Sending much love, peace and grace to Kate and the Reuter Family. Ed was such a lovely man who made everyone in his path feel special and appreciated. His wit and enthusiasm for life, his love of his daughter, and his glowing recommendations about the newest restaurant he discovered made him a magnet in every gathering. He always greeted you with delight and I looked forward to seeing him at all the Saint Peter's University functions. He will be missed by so many and I am honored to have known him.

Deepest condolences to Ed's daughter, Kate, and his entire family on the loss of such an extraordinary gentleman. My family and I looked forward to seeing him at our yearly West Point gathering and my grown daughters would be so excited when he arrived. Ed was the highlight of the day. He was truly one of a kind; everyone that met him loved him. God bless Ed.

I wish I were technically savvy enough to post one of the many photos I have somewhere of my college years with Ed laughing and smiling. He truly is one of the reasons for my warm and loving memories of my years at St. Peter's not only when it was "college" in my student years but when it became a university, when I was on the Board of Trustees. In recent years, it was Ed's smiling face that I scanned the crowd for. Ed please say hello to Fr. Kelly and Fr. Heavey. Rest in Peace Ed, you deserve a blessed eternity, Kathleen

I was lucky enough to know Ed not only as my dean of students while I was at Saint Peters but also as a friend. I would see him often when I lived in Hoboken. Ed always had time for people; he really was truly a rare breed. He will be missed by all.

My sincere condolences to Ed's family. I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Ed in the late 1980s and early 1990s at St. Peter's College. He was always a bright light, positive, optimistic, and working for the welfare of all. I had lost contact with him until a few years ago, when we reconnected through Facebook. I looked forward to his communications while I now work in the Fiji Islands. May he Rest In Peace, and bring joy in heaven. Don Maldari, S.J.

Sincerest condolences to the Reuter family. It was a true joy to have Mr. Reuter in The Office of Student Affairs while I was an undergraduate (‘94) and Graduate student (‘96). He would eventually hire this international student from the Bahamas as a Graduate Assistant and allow me to run with the idea of coordinating NYC-based activities for new students. What great fun that was! He was so supportive of and open to ideas. He was one of a kind and will truly be missed. God bless him.

We have all been blessed in spending a moment with Ed. This is an oxymoron, because there was no such thing as a moment with Ed. They were encounters. I will miss those encounters and will now cherish them. Ed was the most heart warming, delightful human being you'd ever come across. You walked away from those encounters, an hour or so in the least, enlightened and refreshed. He joined a number of our family celebrations and left an everlasting impression on our kids and family. My heart goes out to those parents who now have to explain to their children Ed cannot be at their party because he left a bigger smile on everyone's face then anyone in attendance.
Kate always knew her father was admired and welcomed wherever he was and will now hear those stories that will fill her forever.
Ed apprenticed, here in this world, for the next job on his journey, 'Official Greeter' at the Pearly Gates. Remember to open the door when I knock.
God Bless you, Jane and Kate.

I am so sorry about Ed's passing. I was looking forward very much to seeing him at our NBHS Class of 70 reunion in the fall. Ed had a huge impact on so many students' lives in North Bergen and at St. Peter's. He was a breath of fresh air as an English teacher, even playing Simon and Garfunkel records for us in class. More important, he was a model of how to live with good humor and enduring friendship across so many years and through hard times too. A very wonderful and loved man. My condolences.

Ed, you will be missed by humanity and of course the influences you had on your students lives. I can remember dinner parties with my friends and enjoyed the fact that you were considered a friend as well. He was just one of us who frequently got together at the Arak’s home. Thank you for your kindness, insights into the real meanings of life, thank you for teaching us at NBHS. You will be missed but we will keep your spirit alive with the fond memories of you my friend.

Mr. Reuter, what can I say about him, he was kind, considerate, funny, caring person. he was a teacher at North Bergen HS when I was there class of '68. Just saw him less than 2 years ago when we were having our 50th reunion, he looked great, had that smile on his face, and looked like he was from our class not one of our teachers since he looked so much younger and vibrant. may he rest in peace. Amen
