In my earliest days of opera-going, I saw Eileen Schauler as a vibrant Tosca and as a fiery Santuzza at New York City Opera.
It is sad to read of her passing. My regards and condolences to her family.

Sending all my love and condolences to Jeffrey and Jeannette and the rest of the family.
When I started teaching at AMDA in 1992, Eileen was already a legend. A Diva in her own right, having given stunning performances in such standards as Tosca and other much more unusual repertoire, she was dedicated to passing on her wonderful technique and joie de vivre in performing to a new generation. She also became a dear and loving friend, so supportive of me when I took over as chair of the department in 2002. In addition to her great artistry, she had a clear head and was wonderful in giving advice about how to keep things running smoothly. Not to mention her fashion statements! She was fanatic about keeping her slim figure and even her every day outfits were stunning in their coordination and brilliant colors. I still miss seeing her in the Teachers’ lounge, even though she hasn’t been there in quite a while. I feel so fortunate to have seen Eileen in Milburn in December 2019, just before Covid Lockdown. I had no idea it would be our last live visit, and cherish that time when she was as full of life and stories of her amazing career as ever. Rest in peace, my dear. You will be sooooo missed.

What a wonderful presence Eileen was in all of our lives. Her passion, knowledge and commitment raised the bar for everyone who knew her. Eileen made everyone feel special, and I particularly remember that when I first met her at AMDA. She took the time to get to know me. I will treasure her kindness always. Mary Hurlbut

So sorry to hear that the lovely Eileen is now singing with the angels. I can't even express how much I, and all our mutual friends, adored her. I studied with her at AMDA from 1991 to 1993 and then continued to study with her over the years until she retired to NJ and I left for the west coast. Over the years she became not only my voice teacher but also my friend. We enjoyed meals and lessons and never ran out of things to talk about.
I feel so LUCKY to have known her. She was FABULOUS. Always put together, always perfectly coiffed and lipsticked, she was glamorous and down to earth all at the same time. I now teach voice lessons. She taught me almost everything I know about teaching and I find myself channeling her all the time, though I can never hold a candle to her. She was absolutely THERE for her students, attending performances and juries and would go off on your pianist if she thought they weren't supporting you, haha.
I remember when I used to call her at home to schedule lessons and her Irwin would always answer the phone. Even though I never met him I so enjoyed talking to him. He was also so kind and had the most amazing speaking voice! I loved just talking to them on the phone hearing how they spoke - with kindness and the beauty of those amazing voices!
I have already been missing Eileen since I left NY10 years ago and now I miss her more. She is one of the most spectacular people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. She was gracious, beautiful and funny and she was my friend. She always spoke so fondly of her family so even though we don’t know each other please know that she was loved and adored by many. I’m sending you love and prayers and comfort.
