A beautiful life that came to an end, she died as she lived, everyone's friends. In my heart a memory will always be kept, of one I loved, and will never forget. Jane, may your soul rest in peace! Love, Karlyne

VERY sad to hear. Jane was so strong and tough. She was also probably the only other person aside from my father that I would never have wanted to be in trouble with during my childhood. Much love to the Lichtmans and Tap fam.

Truly few words to express the shock and sadness upon hearing of Jane's passing.
Having been a camper in the 40's and 50's and returning to Tap many times over the years, I was always so impressed with the way Jane maintained all of the important camp traditions, while at the same time making the experience fit the times for each new generation of campers.
Jane was always welcoming to returning alums. Such fond memories of singing the "old" camp songs with her.....she knew them from her own experience at camp growing up.
How wise that she had the foresight to share with JD all that made Tap so special. He clearly loves camp as she did and will continue to make it a place of joy for all who are privileged to experience all that Tap offers to campers and adults alike.
In her quiet way, Jane was such a strong leader. What an honor to have had the opportunity to get to know her. I feel her loss deeply.

Jane was an amazing person and Camp director. Jane was one of the strongest people I ever knew. So many times I watched as difficult things arose at camp and Jane was not shaken by them at all. She just kept smiling and laughing and solving problems. Keep going strong Tap girls. Jane is smiling with you. Jennifer Bromley Hutchison

We are so sorry for your loss with the passing of Jane. She was a wonderful person and an incredible camp director. Our three daughters went to Tapawingo for many years each, and Jane provided such a perfect opportunity for joy and freedom at camp along with valuable camp lessons that had a direct impact into their lives at home, school, and in the future. We believe that Jane was part of raising our girls and are so grateful. It takes a village, and Jane played a pivotal role. No doubt, she had a positive impact on hundreds of other young lives, too. We will keep your family in our thoughts.

I first met Jane in Princeton for coffee and smiled when I saw the Tap license plate. So clear how much she loved camp
Seeing that love in person at the 100th reunion was amazing
Tapawingo is so special that only the Tap family understands the bond. Jane did so much to preserve that tradition.

Jane was a wonderful mentor to my late wife at the start of her career in the late 70s, when Leslie interned at AAHE, in many ways responsible for her trajectory of science eduction to Ph.D. to school science teacher. I remember a lovely visit to Tapawingo several years ago in a quiet moment at the end of a summer.
I hope all her family's memories are as rich and warm as ours, of a generous, smart and wise friend.

Jane Lichtman – what a wonderful woman you were! I have known her since 1988 when I started volunteering for a 2-week stint as camp doctor, caring for campers and counselors (along with the camp nurses), and have done so each summer since (this summer will be my 32nd consecutive year). Camp Tapawingo is such a special place – not just a beautiful and peaceful patch of timbered land on a spectacular lake (Keys Pond), but thanks to Jane it was also a vibrant camp where the girls attending were in a safe and nurturing environment. Jane ran a “tight ship’ – could be demanding and directive, and she let all know (campers, counselors and staff) of her expectations to maintain high standards and full participation by the campers in the many activities offered. But she was also a loving leader who cared deeply for all involved at Camp Tapawingo, and enriched the lives of countless girls over the years. My wife and I came to love Jane as a sister, and consider her passing as having diminished our family.

To Jane's family and the Tap family, all of Runoia sends thoughts about your loss. We have lost a giant in the camp community, however, I can only imagine the hole in your heart. Memories will help the healing over time, for sure. Jane was an instant mentor to me from the day we met. She always checked in when we saw each other at MYCA meetings or ACA Conference. I know she has been that and more to so many. Aren't we all lucky to have rubbed shoulders with Jane. Our thoughts are with you and Jane, may your RIP.

The Maine Camp Experience community of camps is very sorry about Jane's passing. Her family and camp community are in our thoughts. So many nice sentiments and memories of Jane have been shared among our camp directors who have communicated that Jane had an impact on so many, that she was a friend and a colleague, that she was very kind, a wonderful example of humanity, extremely passionate about camp, and an amazing person. We have made a donation to Circle Camps in her honor. We are sending our thoughts, strength and love.
