Tim’s passing will leave a huge void in many lives. Brash, confident, gregarious, Tim left an indelible impression on everyone he met. He filled a room and made it brighter and more lively, especially for those of us who appreciated a showman. He was one of the best and most facile writers I have known. Although we only worked together for a few years in New York—at Dow Jones—we remained lifelong friends thereafter. I cherish the endless stream of entertaining emails he sent out over the ensuing years—vignettes that captured the Tim Middleton view of life and the world around us, filled with humor, wit, insight and advice. I am going to miss having him to turn to when I wanted to share something interesting, or funny, or puzzling. And I will miss his generosity. Tim often helped other writers and cared deeply for his family, which, it became obvious over the years, was his first priority. Joyce, my deepest condolences to you, your sons, your daughter and the grandchildren who brought so much joy to Tim. Like you, we will miss him terribly.
