Professor Lonning was the first professor that I encountered when starting at UCC. At a time where I feared the jump to college, I soon felt at ease when learning more about him. He was an honest professor who truly cared about his students. The advice that he gave to us truly left a lasting impression on me; one of the most crucial pieces of advice he gave me in the course was to create a LinkedIn. While that may sound small and simple, creating that account led to many opportunities opening up to me, with many of those not being possible without the account. I cannot believe that I am learning the news of his passing this late. May he rest peacefully.

I was so shocked to learn of Greg’s passing. He taught science at osky junior high. Never got to have him as a teacher but he was a very kind and generous person.

Greg was my Advisor at Monmouth University. I only had the pleasure of knowing him for two years. However, everytime I spoke with him during our meetings, he'd make me smile because of how genuinely kind he was. During a rough time in my life, an Internship opportunity popped up across the country and at the time I wasn't sure if I was ready. But, Dr. Lonning motivated me to pursue this opportunity and helped me TREMENDOUSLY to make it possible for me to move & take my courses remotely in such short notice. I'm so happy I took advice because it was the best decision i've ever made and it completely changed my life. I would've loved to give him an update of how things have been but I already know he's aware of what's going on. Greg Lonning is such an amazing person and role model. I wish nothing but the best for his family, and may he rest in peace.

Tis the 23rd of March and I just this afternoon heard of Greg's death/On a scale of 1 to 10 he was an 11/I worked with Coach at UWL as the Equipment Manager for his team and 18 others plus the PE Department and Intramurals/He was one of the easiest people to work with and that is so much better than working "for" someone/He and Kealy have a wonderful family and that is a tribute for the time and patience they had with the kids and fellow employees and friends and associates/there was a sense of loss when Greg left La Crosse because you just don't get a chance to be with that kind of human being very often and now the loss is doubled by his death/I would wait for the family newsletter every year from Kealy to find out who was doing what and would email Greg when there was news of someone who had been on staff at La Crosse with him/there is nothing else to say except that I am happy and proud to have had a chance to work along side of him.........Rest in Peace My Friend.........We are La Crosse!!

Greg was amazing. I only hope I can do justice to all the students he served at Monmouth University with my words. He was an amazingly nice person, the definition of Midwest nice(and I know I grew up on a farm in Missouri). He always was positive, caring and kind. He helped students and faculty and staff every day. He never said no. He was positive and encouraging. He will be missed. For all the lives you touched, Greg, thanks.

Firstly….. the word is “heartbroken”. I’m so sorry for the loss of this beautiful man. Cheerleading with Kealy and supporting Greg’s amazing wrestling talents are forever a part of my high school life.
He will be terribly missed by his family and friends. I hope you find comfort in the memories and seeing glimpses of him in your kids. Perhaps he and my David are comparing college wrestling stories. God bless you all.

I have been thinking about all of you since I heard the news earlier this week. I have to say I'm still in shock. I haven't met many people as passionate, caring, and hard working as Greg. I fondly remember the days when he would haul Connor and me in his big maroon van, with Eagles air brushed on the hood, to UWL's rock-climbing wall; or the countless pitches he threw us in the batting cage; or our jaunt to Devil's lake for my first ever outdoor rock climbing trip; or to the New Orleans Saints summer training; or to the amusement park in Albuquerque... the list goes on. He was the closest to a father figure, besides my own, for most of my childhood. The world is a better place because of Greg Lonning and I can't believe he's no longer with us in person, though, he will remain in the hearts and minds of the many people that he met.

Though we never met Greg, we consider ourselves good friends of his mother, Karen. Karen always speaks very lovingly and proudly of her family, including her children and grandchildren. We know, from Karen's stories, how closely knit her family is. We want to extend our deepest sympathies to Karen and all of the family. You will be in our prayers.

Greg will be deeply missed by many and in many ways. 39 years later after graduating with Greg at Luther, I still hear his words when running and coming to hill, “attack the hill, attack the hill!” Mary and I share our deepest sympathies and you all are in our prayers for God’s comfort and peace. I am sending love to the entire Lonning family. I worked with Greg at Monmouth University. He was a wonderful colleague, and friend, and so supportive of our students and our program. I will miss his kindness, his support for our team at Monmouth, and our students. He was such a wonderful human being, always giving, that it is difficult to make sense of this. I cannot imagine how painful this is for all of you. I have you all in my heart and I've been thinking of you every day. Sending love and peace.
