I am eternally grateful for this irreplacable man that loved his family so completely and unconditionally. A man who understood what it meant to be a man. Aways smiling, awe inspiring, yet full of humility. I am thankful for the example of his honesty, strengths, and integrity he set for us to follow. I am eternally grateful to have this courageous soul be the one I get to call my father.

Uncle Bob was one of the kindest, gentlest, loveliest people I have ever known. It was my great good fortune to have him as my uncle and godfather. It always surprised me that Uncle Bob was a Marine, because he certainly didn’t fit the stereotype, but that meant he and his brothers and sister had covered all four branches of the military. When I got my first job at a magazine, he was in the middle of his long and distinguished career at the Wall Street Journal, and he very kindly told me it was good to have another writer in the family. Perhaps because he lost his mother at such a young age, Uncle Bob always made family, including extended family, a priority, and we could always count on him to be with us for all life’s milestones, whether in celebration or sorrow. He, Aunt Mary Ellen, Tricia and Michael even braved a blizzard to come to my wedding. We love you, Uncle Bob. Thank you for everything, all my life. May God bless you, and may God bless and comfort Aunt Mary Ellen, Tricia, Keith and Jayne.
