Dear Curtis and Derissa, Dawn was a beautiful person inside and out. I most remember her lilting voice and her radiant smile. May you take comfort in knowing she was loved by many and touched lives in ways she may not even have known.

I’d known Dawn these past few years, while collaborating in the Secretariat Group with the United Nations Women’s Guild where we would meet for common issues, but, more recently with the coordination of the Virtual Music performance of October 2021, where I saw her dedication, professionalism and kindness up close ….and more recently with the Coordination Board, sometimes working together with meeting minutes. A great loss for our group and projects which will be covered in her name. Our prayers and many people’s memory will be with Dawn now and for years to come. Her impact will live on forever. God Bless .

Dear Curtis and Derissa,
Words cannot express the sadness in my heart as I think of the pain that you must be going through at this time. When I first met Curtis on my arrival in Vienna in 1988 and Dawn a few months later, it was easy to see what a close knit family you were. I can only imagine the wrench that this temporary separation has caused. I pray that the Lord will grant you all strength and comfort to sustain you through these days of grief. Dawn was so full of light and life, always cheerful and smiling, with a ready laugh no matter the occasion or the challenges she faced. Her resilience and commitment in overcoming obstacles were well known. Perhaps this might be the message she would send to those she loved:
"Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears, but laugh
And talk of me as if I were beside you. I loved
You so—‘twas heaven here with you." Isla Paschal Richardson
Farewell dear Dawn. Gone too soon. Rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon you.
From Beverley Young

Lucy and Tetteh Akiti
Accra, Ghana
It is with infinite sorrow and sadness that received the unbelievable news of the passing of Dawn Edwards-Raynold, devoted wife of Curtis Raynold. Our families arrived in Vienna, Austria at about same time in 1983-1985. Lucy and Dawn worked very hard at the yearly UNWG bazaar to get charities for the whole world. It was very gratifying to see these ladies taking the charity work very seriously to help the underprivileged around the globe.
In between, they always discussed how to raise children in the multicultural environment.
Later on, Lucy and Dawn again worked as substitute teachers at the Vienna International School. We would always remember the visits that we paid to each other homes. On one occasion, Dawn served us with authentic Trinidadian Sorrel and Roti.
Dawn your passing is a shock to us and the children.
Dawn you have traveled the world and God who knows the best has called you to return home to Jesus Christ, your Lord and Savior where you will be at peace forever.
May your Soul Rest In Perfect Peace.

Revelation 14:13
I heard the voice from heaven saying, "Write, 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.'" "Yes," says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their labours; for their works follow with them."
It is often said that you never know the value of a person until you lose them. However, in this instance, I knew the value of my dear friend whom I affectionately referred to as my sister. It is the more devastating to write about my dear Dawn in the past tense, a true friend who has been a part of my life over a span of 30 years. The thought that a person I so admired and loved is no longer in this world is a bitter pill to swallow. Alas, we can never fully understand the ways of God, therefore, we accept that you are resting peacefully in Heaven, reunited with your beloved son Dhelon.
Dawn Jennifer Edwards Raynold was a phenomenal woman of immense strength and poise, she emanated grace, beauty, love and compassion. It was truly a pleasure to know her. As much as she dedicated herself to work and furthering herself academically, she also found time to indulge in the things that brought her joy. She especially loved the Opera, the Vienna Café houses and her white wine.
Knowing Dawn was knowing that her family was her pride. She dotted over them. Inspirationally, she was wife, mother, teacher, best friend and a mentor to them.
I will always have fond memories of the day Dawn and I first met. It was the first day of school at the Vienna International School, where we both brought our first-born sons to primary one. We instantly took a liking to each other and have been bosom friends, more like sisters ever since. Coincidentally our daughters Naa and Derissa were also the same age and have remained bosom friends and sisters, just like their mothers.
When her family moved to the US we adjusted and assumed our friendship over the phone, spending lots of hours on the phone. WhatsApp just intensified our insatiable rapport and fondness for each other.
Most Christmases were spent with the Raynolds. Dawn would start decorating months before Christmas, turning her already beautiful home into a splendid oasis for the season’s festivities. The baking of her delicious Christmas fruit cake would also start months ahead. These memories are so vivid in my mind. My style icon…you have left us all devastated but the Lord loves you more.
I will always remember your welcoming beautiful smile, gentle nature and wittiness. The invaluable time spent visiting each other, studying together, teaching our children and just chatting away – always finding moments to mentor each other– you were so full of wisdom.
Rest Perfect Peace my dear friend, my Caribbean sis. You will forever be in our hearts. Sleep well till we meet on the resurrection morning.

Dearest Dawn. We enjoyed working together for more than a decade at the UNWG-Manhattan Group (UNWG-MG). We even agreed to be Co-Directors during the last 5 years! Before that, we were both with the UNWG in Vienna, although at different periods. How often we reminisced on our enjoyable experiences in Vienna, both within and outside the UNWG. We even attempted to recommend some useful practices to be adopted by UNWG in NYC.
I will always remember you working with dedication and wholeheartedly during our Bazaar and other fund-raising; our meetings to review children’s projects; discussions and strategizing on the future of UNWG in general and UNWG-MG in particular. You were calm, spoke eloquently and self-assured at our meetings within UNWG-MG or in the Coordination Board. Commitments you made were always fulfilled; you were very honest with financial matters, a virtue you proudly attributed to your father.
You shared with much pride about your beloved husband and your two equally accomplished children. We felt your huge loss and hurt on the passing of your dear son at the prime of his life.
We both enjoyed the performing arts, especially Jazz. On several occasions, with our spouses and also with Dereesa, we attended concerts in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center; sipping wine together. We enjoyed Happy Hours with the late and dear friend Isabelle Goldberg.
Then suddenly you left us so soon and without a warning; we are devastated, but comforted by lovely memories, and with the thought that you are now without pain; that you have joined your Creator and your beloved son. Rest in everlasting peace dear friend. You will never be forgotten. Condolences to Curtis and Dereesa. Praying for continuing strength during these challenging times. Isabel Rojas-Aleta

Dawn and her family have been friends of my family from Vienna to New York. We watched our children grow up healthily and successfully in both locations. I recall my youngest daughter and Derissa dancing and singing on the street in Prague, as our families vacationed there together. Part of our memory is several Christmas dinners at the Raynold's home when Dawn shared her goose dish. Dawn was very serious about education, and we shared many thoughts about that and other social and spiritual issues. Both as a trained and qualified educator and as an innovative and caring practitioner, she gave individualized tutoring to children who needed it and was sought out by parents who recognized her skills and commitment.
Dawn actively participated in both leadership and fund-raising for the United Nations Women's Guild for years. Documented for posterity is her recent and most effective collaboration in 2021 to create the first virtual UNWG concert, both as a fundraiser and as an anniversary celebration. Dawn readily wrote an inspiring blurb for my book on Prayer, since she was indeed a faithful and prayerful Christian woman. Her influence is carried forward in her loving daughter, Dr. Derissa Raynold, and in those she loved and supported, especially her devoted husband, Curtis. She is an example of pursuing dreams, having faith and sharing your heart without reservation. Her soul indeed rests in peace. Hyacinth Bailey and family
