I'm forever grateful that the Chief accepted my application; an adjacent town, (family clannish), refused. We shared similar interest and he always entertained my sometimes, off-the-wall pursuits and initiatives, (i.e. backing my desired to include caps as an option to the trooper style hats; so much more comfortable on a hot day indeed!). Paul was a progressive and more democratically inclined than most police leaders. Sometimes "discussions" with him became contentious but eventually resulted in his sage observation/advice: "You can't be right all the time", such furnished me with "wisdom" that engendered me with more humility.
With great appreciation & admiration,
Larry Waimon

So sad to hear. Back in 1969, then Sargent Tighe took my sister and me to see the Monkees in Forest Hills, when my brother who was going to drive us, got sick. What a kind man.

This irony applies to this tribute: "Sometimes you don't know what you've got 'til you lose it". Paul Tighe, the right man, for the right job, at the right time. Chief Tighe, rest in peace knowing that you have done well for your family, your church, your
community and for your police department. A long life well led.........

Chief Tigh was my Police Chief for my entire 23 year career.
I can still remember the first time I met him. It was in the old building and I was about to enter the Police Academy.
Having been recently discharged from the Navy I knew I was greeted by a Military leader with Command Presence when I walked into his office.
Paul was: fair, kind, understanding. firm when necessary and a cops cop!
I can remember one afternoon when I entered his office to discuss having a large Memorial on the steps of Headquarters. Then I asked him to attend as a speaker ----He said NO!! I then suggest moving the ceremony to his front yard and raise it on his flagpole. Moments later there was a loud BATIATO"!!! ---- " One of these days you are going to something I do not like" I WILL BE THERE!! Paul gave a speech that was second to none - His knowledge of New Jersey Military history was outstanding .
He imprinted a mark on my life that will live with me forever!
Thank You Chief Paul Tighe
