Dear Mrs. Aymer:
Your passing has taken me by surprise.
You were the best science teacher I ever had at St. Andrew High School for Girls.
You also had a wonderful sense of humor and ready smile. I enjoyed going to chemistry class.
I send, this time more publicly, sincere condolences to your immediate family, friends and loved ones.
Some losses cannot be tabulated accurately by words. Your passing has left a space in many lives.
I pay homage to your marvelous teaching abilities and to a life well spent.
Best,
KDA

TRIBUTE FROM BEVERLEY PHILLIPS. JAMAICA
I first met Mrs. Shirley D. Aymer as a 9-year-old student at St. Hilda's Diocesan High School (a boarding school for girls in the parish of St. Ann, as Miss Shirley Lewin. We were blessed to have four young Jamaican teachers who had taken a gap year before heading off to start their University studies at The University College of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Kingston 7. St. Andrew (now The University of the West Indies). They were given the task of teaching the prep. formers (8 plus - 10 year olds) and first formers (10 -11 year olds) depending on when they started school. Of course, as little children, we were happy to have these young pretty teachers as they could relate more to us children. than the older staff members. and we were very sad when they left at the end of the school year to start their University education.
We heard Miss Lwsin had graduated from University and left the island. Many years passed and one day in 1973, I was passing the Methodist Manse on the road which I lived, and I saw this lady outside in her garden with her two daughters, and I said, "Good afternoon, you look like my former teacher, Miss Lewin,,are you related to her?" She smiled and said, "This is she, but I am now Aymer and these are my two daughters, Margaret and Valerie". So I said. "Wow!! I know three Aymers, one is my University Lecturer, the second is the Methodist Minister in charge of the University's Methodist Society and the Pastor in charge of the Providence Methodist Church; and the third was a student theologian at the UWI; That's a very uncommon surname in Jamaica, so. you must be related to one of them", She remarked that the Methodist Minister was her husband, and the other two were her brothers-in law. We exchanged pleasantries and I was immediately welcomed into her home, and after a while, became one of three "baby-sitters" for the two girls as we insisted that Shirley, "the quiet homebody" needed to go out sometimes.
Over time, she and her family became a part of my family and became a second daughter to my Mum. When the Aymer family migrated to the USA in 1978, they became close to my brother; so we saw them on our visits to the USA as my brother was a brother-friend to them. When the Aymer family visited Jamaica, they sometimes stayed with my Mum and I.
The news of her sudden passing has been terrible news. Shirley has been a part of my family for many years and I will miss her humour, her e-mail updates and cards (Unlike her daughters, Shirley was not on social media. e.g., FaceBook or Instagram). She has been special to us and she has influenced the lives of many many people in Jamaica and worldwide. A brilliant and dedicated Science teacher, a dedicated Church worker, a dedicated and beloved Mother and Grandmother, and a beloved sister-friend.
My deepest sympathy to Margaret, Valerie, Ann-Marie, Laurent, Gabriel, Kristen-Claire and her extended family, her friends, colleagues and church family. May the Almighty God grant you all comfort during this very difficult time period coming so close after the passing of your beloved Dad.
Rest in Eternal Peace, Shirls, in the arms of the Almighty God whom you served so well.

TRIBUTE FROM; RICHARD (DICKIE) PHILLIPS, Georgia.
Dear Margaret, Valerie and Ann-Marie:
I am truly saddened by this gut wrenching news that got my eyes welling up causing me to shed tears which I hadn't done since similar news of my mother's passing. When I got the news of your Dad's passing, it was easier to process because of his degeneration over a period of time, but this time it's like being hit by a "two by four" because I last spoke with her in mid-January and she was fine but this is the reality of recognizing we have to live in the now because tomorrow we know not.
I would like to offer my sincere and heartfelt condolences to Margaret. Valerie, Ann-Marie, Laurent, Gabriel, Kristen-Claire and the extended family members at this time of your loss of a Dear Mother, Grandmother and Sister-Friend.
At this time of your grief, I pray that God will give you all the strength to cope with this great personal loss especially that she has followed your Dad so quickly. As I process what has occurred, I accept that this is God's timetable.
Your Mum was a very rare jewel who lived a purposeful life of dedicated service to all of humanity. She was a generous and remarkable lady who left an enduring mark on her students, friends, family and all the lives she touched through acts of love and compassion as well as her values and faith in God.
I will miss her dearly, however, at this time all I can say is that she has left a wonderful legacy. So as you come to grips with her sudden departure and plan her celebration of life, let's remember all the wonderful memories we shared with her especially in South Orange (New Jersey) which will remain indelible in my mind. Today she's enjoying the presence of her Lord and Savior, Almighty God..
Rest in Eternal Peace, Shirley. and May Light perpetual shine on you.

Dearest Ann Marie and Aymer family, I pray daily for God's comfort and peace remain with you all. I will miss my "Sister-in-Christ" and colleague at Clifford Scott High School, more than I can say. Within her legacy exists a torch that each of you, her daughters, so richly carry on. Her face shone with light, pride, and love when she spoke of how blessed she was to watch all of you (and that awesome grandson) grow in grace and purpose. I know that she is in the loving arms of Jesus. Much love and continued peace, Mrs. Wendi Martin and family

TRIBUTE TO SHIRLEY DELORES LEWIN-AYMER
Shirley-D I am thankful for your sharing and influencing my life since my meeting you in 1974; soon thereafter you consented to be and stood as God-mother to my infant son, Robert. When I think of you, I have so many beautiful memories; however, this poem which I learnt during my childhood, epitomises your life:
I shall pass this way but once.
Through this toilsome world alas.
Once and only once I pass.
Any good that I can do; any kindness that I may show my fellowman.
Let me do it while I can; no delay, for it is plain.
I shall not pass this way again.
When we spoke in January 2023, I never could have imagined that your journey on this plane would have ended so soon: “We cannot Lord thy purpose see but all is well that's done by Thee.”
You lived; you loved; you believed; you accepted; you followed … the principles as commanded by the Almighty Father and the promised reward to part-take at the great banquet.
The angels came and you went without struggling; we will miss you but we give abundant thanks that you walked amongst us and blessed immeasurably the lives of all with whom you interacted. You were blessed with an amazing gift – life and the amazing presence of beautiful people in it - and taught and exemplified that because of God’s love for us, we must be grateful for what we have; appreciate what we receive; need what we want; give without expectations and never take it for granted.
To Margaret, Valerie, Ann-Marie your spouses and extended families; acquaintances; colleagues and friends please be reassured of the Almighty Father’s promises of comfort in times of despair; to call on his strength; to call for his understanding and acceptance as we grieve the loss of our beloved Shirley Delores.
Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

“…whoever sows generously will also reap generously”, and Ms. Shirley was a testimony to this verse. I will miss our chats and earn exchanges for they were always uplifting with your kindness and wisdom. I’m thankful God brought us together and will cherish the time we were able to connect. My deepest condolences to all family and friends, and extended love to your three daughters, whom because of your youngest, I came to know you - “my buddy”. Ms. Shirley, may you rest in eternal peace - the warmth of your smile will always be with me.
With love,
Keisha and Family

To my dear Aunt Shirley, we met in the early seventies, and you left an indelible impression on my life. As the years went on we bonded, and eventually became like sisters, you even became the godmother of my children. Your family values were outstanding.
I will miss her humor, loving spirit, the times we spent together. My memories of her will always be with me and our family.
Peace be with you my friend.
Our condolences to the families affected during this difficult time.

My aunt was kind and caring to me growing up. As an adult, I've come to know that she showed that same spirit and caring to her students, at church and in the community. May she rest in peace. Sending love from the North to my cousins. -e.

First met Auntie Shirley when I was 9 years old, and my family had just moved to Jamaica. She was the strong, silent, stoic counterweight to her more gregarious husband. But despite being the quieter of the two, that inner strength was very noticeable Also very generous and warm of spirit. May she rest in eternal peace. ❤️❤️❤️

What I always admired of Mrs. Aymer ( … I felt the regality of her essence, thus my reasonings for addressing her with her surname … ) was the manner of her gait. It was a quiet strength that demanded respect. She was a wonderful woman who I would not want to disappoint. May her life be for a blessing.
