Obituary of Mary Lou McGinn
Mary Louise (Mary Lou) Keim McGinn passed peacefully with her family by her side on April 22, 2023.
Mary Lou was born in Carlisle, PA on April 12, 1942 to the late John Willis (Bill) and Helen Wolfe Keim. She attended Carlisle High School and Jefferson Medical College School of Nursing in Philadelphia. She worked in different areas of healthcare for 45 years, but her heart was always where she had started, in hospital nursing (particularly pediatrics).
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother, Jim. She is survived by her children, Kristin Mahoney (Whelan) and Kevin McGinn (Emily), and grandchildren Lucy, Alice, Simon, and Felix, as well as by her older brother, John, and many beloved cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
Mary Lou's family and friends will remember her smiling brown eyes, her love of children, dogs, and gardening, and the way she laughed when she told a story. She had a heart full of love and understanding, and her warmth was felt by everyone in her orbit, even in the years when her health and memory were in decline. When two of her grandchildren were small, they made the observation (independently of one another) that "If Mr. Rogers was a girl, he would be Grandma." She will be dearly missed.
A celebration of Mary Lou's life will be held at the Preston Funeral Home in South Orange, NJ on Saturday, May 13, 2023 (memorial visitation from 1:30-3:00; service at 3:00).
