Marina
Celebrating a life that was one in a million.
I was Marina’s care giver for just over a year, though it felt as if it was a lifetime ago I met with her for the first time. When I started it felt like she was the caregiver instead. She’d ensure that I had something to eat, then she wanted to clear the table after me, which she would do every time until I told her, I can help myself, then she’ll give me a look! Some of you know that look very well. Hadn’t I put my foot down she would have done it every day and that’s how caring she was. Selfless and kind.
Marina was loved everywhere we went. Doctors appointments would end up being a tea party or a comedy show, her Physical Therapy would end up being a laughing session, a meet and greet or a party. It was always something wherever we show up. One person asked me one time, “ can I keep her”. That was something! Her witty personality and white hair drew so many people to her.
Sophisticated yet simple minded
Prideful yet full of humility.
Down to earth and fun loving, loved to read and write, loved Bob Marley (One Love)and The Mighty Sparrow, two of the Caribbean’s most popular artistes. She loved to sit at the breakfast table and look out at the birds and surmise their flutterings. She would read everything that could be read and she loved to talk about her mom and her youthful days. Her favorite statement she would use to describe her mom was, “ she was an avid reader”.
There is so much to say about Marina but…!
Dianne and Chelsea, I am so glad I got to be the person to take care of your Nana. I feel so blessed sharing her and knowing her. I got so much more than I gave. Thank you.
May her soul rest with the Lord.

Sending my sincere condolences to Aunt Pat's family and all who loved her. Aunt Pat and my Mom, Shirley (Price) Floris, were friends in Teachers' Training College and continued that close friendship until my Mom's death in 2013. Aunt Pat was simply wonderful and set an outstanding example of how to live a fully engaged life. I will be forever grateful for her presence in our family's life. May she rest in peace.

Our memories with Auntie Pat was the family get togethers, where stories of her early years in Guyana was shared. She talked about Mommy and Daddy Rocke, her brothers, life on the farm, riding her bike, day to day life.
We laughed at the antics, of course the boys remembered some differently. You felt part of a family.
Auntie Pat used her skills as a teacher to encouraged expression of thoughts and feelings, she would say use your words. I can still hear Pat say "Moreen how yuh do"
Sleep in peace my sister, God bless

A TRIBUTE TO THE FAMILY OF PATRICIA MARINA WHITE nee REID
FROM THE OBE; Old Bauxite Employees
The OBE does not offer comments but it appears that the passing of Patsy Reid has sparked intense interest. Most of the newer OBE's arrived at Demba after she left and never knew her. What OBE has learned from those who were there is that she was a special person, well respected and liked by everyone in the town. This was because of her outgoing personality.
She was an outstanding teacher at Mackenzie Primary, and did exceptionally well at Teachers' Training College, which was partly responsible for her being selected for a scholarship overseas. She returned to head the newly created School for Deaf Children in Georgetown.
In listening to all of her attributes, we regret not having known her. We do know that her father, husband and brothers, were OBEs. We can say that she must have been a great citizen of Mackenzie and are sorry to hear of her passing.
Although the industry has declined over the years, the OBE remains vibrant, and are pleased to add our tribute to a GREAT LADY who has passed away. Such persons are IRREPLACEABLE, and those OBEs who knew her, AGREE.
May her soul rest in Eternal Peace.

A TRIBUTE FOR PATRICIA MARINA REID
FROM ENA GODETTE IN ATLANTA
My husband Arnold and I became friends with Patsy when we arrived in Mackenzie, and we remained close over the years. We were part of an elite group that socialized together. Arnold has passed away, and I am pleased to send a tribute to Patsy's relatives.
Patsy Reid was a special person and was friendly to everyone she met. She was talented, and a superb teacher and actress.
She always gave special attention to children, and every school child loved and respected her. We were overjoyed when she received the scholarship to study in Scotland and returned to become Principal of the Special Education School in Georgetown. We felt that she thoroughly deserved the Department of Education's choice, and she relished the opportunity to teach the children that she loved so much.
Over time, we drifted apart through migration but kept in touch. We were very proud to have been her friend over the years.
May she rest in peace in heaven.

A MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE FOR MY MOTHER'S BEST FRIEND
Auntie Pat and my Mom, Tony Jordan, were best friends from early childhood days. The two of them were inseparable. My Mom passed away, and now her best friend has gone to join her. On behalf of the Jordan Family, I reach out to Auntie Pat's family to send this tribute.
We are all sorry that Auntie Pat has died and mourn her passing. There was always so much laughter whenever she visited our home; she treated us as her kids. The two of them did everything together. They taught together, side by side, at Mackenzie Primary School; took trips together, and we as children, wished we could enjoy such camaraderie with our own friends as they did.
It is hard to lose a loving family member, but time is the great healer, and in time, the pain of your loss will subside, but the grief will remain for a long time. We will all miss her.
We are happy Auntie Pat will be reunited with her relatives who have gone before, but feel confident she will also be glad to find her best friend waiting to welcome her home. May they be happy in each other's company once again.
Auntie Pat did many things, and we are all proud of her various accomplishments, but God needed her home, and it was time for her to leave. We are happy that she will be reunited with our Mom, her best friend, again.
From our family to yours, may God Bless you all.

A TRIBUTE FROM SURVIVING MACKENZIE PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS
Patsy Reid was one of our teaching partners from the EARLY DAYS. Our numbers are slowly dwindling, and during this year, we lost two more; and now Patsy. A few of us from THAT ERA send this tribute to her family.
To the family of Patricia Marina White, nee Reid, please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of your beloved grand mother, brother, and other relatives whom we have not met.
Working with her at Mackenzie Primary School, we can say, without any reservation, that she was loved by students and parents alike. Even though most of her students are now grown up, they still rever her whenever they speak about her. They always remind us that she was their best teacher. We share the same complement.
Even though we have not been teachers for years, and now living abroad, we can say that Mackenzie has lost a GREAT CITIZEN; one that will be remembered for ages.
Rest in peace our dear friend.

I first met Marina Patricia many years ago when I started attending SAHC church in South Orange. My recollection of our first meeting was that after about 10 minutes into our conversation I felt as if I was speaking to an old friend, someone that I could trust unequivocally. She was such an amazingly kind and genuine person, always willing to help out in anyway. Of all her admirable qualities, her totally original sense of humor was the trait that I really loved most about her. She was always so welcoming to everyone at the church. One day while watching her greeting and directing some new parishioners I had a very deep feeling in my heart that if there actually is a heaven and if any of us should be so fortunate to be allowed to enter, it would be Marina Patricia standing there waiting to greet us and welcome us all home…I’m going to miss my friend…May You Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory…

A TRIBUTE FROM SHERWIN FIGUEIRA, MONTREAL, CANADA.
My condolences to the family of Patricia Reid on her passing.
I grew up with Patsy in Mackenzie from early school days until adulthood when I emigrated to Montreal. She was a member of our group of friends who did things together. She was a livewire, and whenever she was around, there was always laughter and fun. She was always together with her best friend, Tony Jordan. They were inseperable.
I had heard about her selection to study abroad, and of her return to Guyana to become Principal of the new School for Deaf Children. Even though abroad, I was so proud of her accomplishment.
I only saw her once over the years at a birthday dinner in New Jersey, and recognized her easily. I was aware of her activities through her close friend, Ned Blair
I'm so sorry that she had to leave us.
May she Rest In Peace.

A TRIBUTE FROM A MACKENZIE FAMILY TO PATRICIA MARINA REID-WHITE.
FROM THE NINE CHILDREN OF INSPECTOR JOHN AND OLIVE BLAIR.
We send this tribute to the members of her family.
With the passing of Patricia Marina Reid-White, Mackenzie has lost another of its pillars from yesteryears. That little town of Mackenzie produced many stalwarts, and Patsy Reid was one of them because of her sterling accomplishment in managing the Special Education School for Deaf Children.
Some of us attended Mackenzie Primary but were too old to be in her class. Mackenzie was a small close-knit community, and we all knew this graceful lady, and teacher, whom we always addressed as Miss. Reid.
Now decades later, we are pleased to send this farewell tribute to a MacCity person, who has departed this life.
May she enjoy the journey home and life in the thereafter.
We will always remember Miss Reid.

A TRIBUTE TO PATRICIA REID from NED BLAIR, Toronto, Canada, December 26, 2003
It is with heartfelt sympathy that I send this tribute to my dear friend, Patricia Reid, who has passed away. I am sorry she did not live for another Xmas, but the Lord knows best. She accomplished much while alive, but she no longer feels the discomfort, and lack of mobility, she lived with. She is on her way to heaven, where she will be reunited with relatives and friends who have transitioned before. Believe me, she is now happy. I deeply regret I am not there due to an ailment. However, should there be a Memorial Service at a later date, I will be there.
Let me tell you about this great person you are here to bury. I remember her vividly having large eyes, a distinctive way of speaking, and exuded gracefulness when she walked. She had an exciting personality. Anything she was involved with, she accomplished it with zest.
We were teachers together. She was very good at teaching children, and this led to her being selected for overseas training in Scotland at a School for The Deaf; the first ever Caribbean or Guyanese teacher chosen. She returned to head the newly created School for Deaf Children in Georgetown, and did exceptionally well as evidenced by the fact she was chosen by the Jamaican Ministry of Education to manage two such schools there. That is how good Patsy Reid was.
In Mackenzie, she was part of my social group. I can mention the many cook-outs, acting with the Gray Dramatic Group that staged plays for the first time in Mackenzie, and joining me in the Patrick Dargan Debating Competitions against the elite schools in the Capital City, Georgetown.
Talk about a best friend; she had one; Tony Jordan. From school days, through teaching together, keeping close after retirement, until Tony departed this life.
I had not seen Patsy for over half a century until I attended my Mom's birthday in New Jersey and invited her. She showed up. I was delighted to see her; the same person I knew so well except her hair had changed color. More recently, I traveled from Canada to attend her birthday together with three other teaching friends from the sixties. That was a fun occasion organized by her grand child Diane. Who could ever forget the classic light blue suit her wore! Since then, each time I came to Jersey, my brother and I would host her for lunch. I was looking forward to my next visit but that is no more. I suppose I will have to keep that date in heaven.
A GREAT LADY has been taken from us; there is NO REPLACEMENT for the likes of a PATSY REID. I wish her safe passage into heaven, where she will be readily accepted by the Lord. Walk good my DEAR FRIEND. We will all miss you.
