Obituary of Commander Linda L. Garcia

Linda L. Garcia, 77 of Philadelphia passed away on July 8th, 2024 at Cooperman Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, NJ lovingly surrounded by her family.

Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave. South Orange, NJ on   Sunday, July 14th from 2-4pm. Linda’s Church Service and Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.

Linda was born in Canal Zone, Panama. She lived all over the United States as a child of a U.S. Navy sailor and eventually settled in Philadelphia. Linda’s most memorable place to live as a child was Port Lyautey, Morocco and loved telling stories of her time there.  Linda earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Old Dominion University. She joined the Navy in 1970 and made a career there. She retired in 1991 as a Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

Linda’s love of traveling and family was the core of her being.  The question asked was always, ‘where’s Linda?’ She loved everything Navy and loved her walks on the Philadelphia Naval Base.  She based her travel around her grandchildrens birthdays, swim meets, soccer games, and t-ball games.   She will be forever remembered for her kindness, stories, and an attentive ear to listen to for all.

Linda is survived by her son, Brian Garcia (Colette) of South Orange NJ, daughter, Monica Asmar (Samer) of Richmond, VA, grandchildren, Maria, Lucas, Setanta, and Donnacha; sister Kathleen Beckner (Michael), nieces, Mary Beth (Robert) Cardwell of Encinitas, CA and Jodie Gardell (Chris) of Minden, Nevada.
