My sincere condolences to a very special individual/ teacher.
I was a student of your mother in Alexander St. School in Vailsburg.
She was one of a kind, she believed in a kid who had trouble learning and was somewhat introverted, but she kept on saying you can do anything, as long as you try, don't give up.
I had her for 3 years as a teacher, 5th, 7th and 8th. She took the time to ease my mothers concerns.
Your mom was one of a kind, a beautiful person. If you look in Websters Dictionary for the definition of what a teacher is, it would say Dorothy Gawenus.
I will always look back fondly at the time I had in her class for 3 years
Again My Condolences.

Sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. Besides being Mom, Grandma, and Great-grandmother to you all she was a great friend and neighbor for almost 43 years.
I'm having eye surgery tomorrow, and will have bandages for 24-48 hours. I have a Mass Card, and Vic will try to make it to the wake to pay our respects and drop it off.
Our prayers are with you, Frank Jr, David, Patty, Mary, and Eileen.

Gawenus Family, so sorry to hear of Dorothy's passing. We have been a neighbor of hers for 32 years. I always enjoyed talking with her when she was outside on walks. Even though she rarely saw my children she always remembered their names and asked about them. A very special lady. She will be missed. Condolences to your entire family.

Gawenus Family, please accept our condolences. As Dorothy's next-door neighbor for 17 years, I always felt so lucky to have such a gracious and spunky lady living so close. She always had a kind word, little story or a nugget of local history to share and our whole family will really miss her. Maplewood has lost one of its greats. Your family is in our thoughts.--Christina, Andy, Hazel and Nate Bess
