Obituary of Dorothy M Gawenus

Dorothy Moran Gawenus, 95, of Maplewood, N.J., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Feb. 10, 2018. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, N.J., on Friday, Feb. 16, at 9:30 a.m. Interment is at St. Teresa's Cemetery, Summit, N.J. Born and raised in Jersey City, N.J., Dorothy resided in Maplewood since 1966. She received her bachelor of science degree in education from Jersey City State College where she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi Honors Society. Dorothy received her master's in education from Teacher's College at Columbia University, New York. She was a teacher in Dumont and Newark, N.J. Dorothy retired in 1985, as the director of testing for the Newark Board of Education. Dorothy was predeceased by her loving parents, Martin J. and Irene O'Neill Moran; beloved husband, Frank B. Gawenus Sr., and her brother, Martin J. Moran D.D.S. She is survived by her loving children, Frank B. Jr. and his wife, Anita, Susan J. Dobak and her husband, Douglas, David J. and his wife, Marybeth, Thomas S. and his wife, Julie, Matthew P. , Mary E. Weins and her husband, Jeffrey and Eileen C. Curran and her husband, Edward; her sister-in-law, Jean Moran, and 16 devoted grandchildren, and 16 cherished great- grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations to Maryknoll Sisters, P.O.
