Rich Howland, a kind and caring man, a trusted colleague, an unusually gifted teacher -- he will be sorely missed. I did not get to work with him regularly, but he was one of those people who made the community whole. I loved walking in to work in the morning and seeing his beautiful photographs, capturing so well the silent depth of meaning in each. We shared a love for some of those places he captured so well. Sending love and wishes for peace to all his family and friends.

I had the fortune to have Dr. Howland as my teacher. Although I did not get a chance to know him personally, he was a great teacher and I loved attending his lectures.
