Mrs. Matthews, Ellen, and Tom,
My deepest condolences. My thoughts are with you in this very difficult time. I have many memories of being over at your house while growing up and Mr. Matthews always made me feel welcome. If there is anything that I can do for you right now, please let me know.

I am very sorry for your loss. It is true that the pain of losing someone is very hurtful but in the bible we can find hope. Revelations 21:4 tells us: “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes,+ and death will be no more,+ neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.+ The former things have passed away.”

Dear Pat, Ellen & Tom, we are thinking of you during this difficult time & offer our condolences. We have fond memories of times shared at Hartshorn School and throughout the school years. Gordon always had kind words & a smile as we experienced our children growing up.

My deepest condolences to you on Gordon's loss. I worked with him in the 70's and 80's at American Banker and always had great respect for him and his work. He was very private and, until last week when I saw a picture of the family on Facebook, I didn't even know he was married. Although we hadn't seen each other much since the newspaper, he remained in my thoughts, and some of my best memories of those years are of times we spent together. My prayers are with you.

Dear Pat, Ellen and Tommy,
We're deeply saddened to hear of Gordon's passing. He had been a part of our lives ever since Ellen and Cathy were babies. When they became inseparable in daycare, like "salt & pepper," we of course spent a great deal of time together too. We hosted playdates, birthday parties, trick-or-treat outings, and numerous other activities. Gordon was often there with us, watching our children play and grow. Over the years, our families have grown very close. We will truly miss him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My deepest condolences to the Matthews family. I worked with Gordon at American Banker where, as an Editorial Assistant, he taught me about various aspects of the banking industry. He had a good sense of humor and was just a great person.

Deepest condolences to Pat, Ellen and Tom. I worked with Gordon for 10 years at American Banker in New York. In addition to being a careful wordsmith and an exacting journalist, he was a gentleman and a devoted family man.He was also a deeply private man, and I am glad I was able to get to meet the family on a couple of occasions in Alexandria, Virginia, where I now live. I have some newsroom photos from the early 1990s that I would like to share with you.

Pat, Ellen and Tom: So sad to hear of Gordon's passing. He was my nephew, so I saw him grow up on the farm in Illinois. His dad was my half-brother. I do remember that he liked to read. Memories will keep him in your hearts. God bless.
