Obituary of Charles Gordon Matthews

Charles Gordon Matthews, 70, passed away at home in Short Hills on June 8, 2018. Gordon was born in Danville, IL, and had lived in Millburn-Short Hills for the past 33 years. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in English. Gordon was a reporter and editor with the American Banker from 1974-2001, covering everything from Bert Lance’s bank fraud trial to the Latin American debt crisis. After leaving the newspaper he continued writing about business and finance until his retirement. Gordon is survived by his wife Patricia Olsen Matthews, children Ellen and Thomas Matthews, and siblings Mark Matthews and Gail Defenbaugh. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Calvary Episcopal Church, 31 Woodland Ave, Summit, NJ on Monday, June 18 at 10:30 am. Interment is private. The family prefers donations to the National Psoriasis Foundation in lieu of flowers. Arrangements by The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, Maplewood.
