Dearest Martha,
I will remember you every time I set foot on a tennis court this Spring! How I loved playing with you, and watching you play. You were an inspiration to all of us who knew and loved you on and off the court. You will be remembered forever.

Martha was a volunteer and then a substitute librarian at the Springfield Free Public Library for many years. I always admired how active she was playing golf and tennis and still working long after most other people are retired. Sometimes when we called her to work, we had to wait until she finished golf or tennis. We were always happy to wait for her to finish her activities because she worked diligently from the moment she arrived until she left. She liked to work on special projects and was wonderful with the public. She often even showed up with homemade cookies! Everyone at the library had a deep respect for Martha for her work ethic and her wonderful attitude about life. We will miss her.

There are still a few of us who remember Martha's wonderful sevice to St. George's Church.
She was a lovely, gentle woman with a quiet sense of humor who was a faithful member of the Altar Guild.
I have often thought of her and her contributions to the beauty of our services.
Rest in peace, old friend.

Dear McCaskie Family, I had the pleasure of knowing your Mom for over 30 years, I was fortunate enough to play tennis and socialize with her at the Maplewood Club. We left the club and Maplewood in 1998 and moved to Morris County. I was fortunate once again to play with Martha at the Moore Estate, in Morristown last summer. I truly admired her amd was inspired to see her still playing the game she loved. Our deepest requests on your lost, she was a wonderful "lady". Fondly, Joanne & Andre Solomine

I met Martha when I started working at the Springfield library. I so appreciated her warm and friendly spirit, her positive attitude and helpfulness, and her directness in getting things done. I will miss seeing her, but my admiration and many good memories remain strong. I am sure her strength of character lives on in her family, too. Blessings on all of you as you mourn and are comforted.
Sincerely,

I also worked with Martha at the Springfield Library, for several years during the 1990s. She made an indelible impression on me, as a strong feminist, and a dedicated librarian. I haven't seen her for several years, but I think of her often, and will never forget her.

A few years ago, before I came to work at the library, i was traveling to Ghana and wanted background material on the country and culture. There was little available at the library, with dates that were not current. A few days later i got a call asking if I would be interested in a video. (I certainly would.) That was Martha- I was very impressed at her drive and knowledge. When I started to work with her, my admiration only grew and I loved her sense of humor.
i will miss her.

Martha and my mother, Elizabeth Nies Daniels, were first cousins. Over the years Martha faithfully kept in touch with the family through notes and cards. We met with Martha and Prestley at their lovely Maplewood home in the early 1980's and kept in touch through letters after that.
Martha was an amazingly intelligent, kind, and talented woman. Knowing her was a treat.
