Obituary of Antoinette T. Masey
Anne (Hudek) Masey of Columbia, New Jersey quietly left her loved ones in her 101st year on Friday December 21, 2018 to rest forever in the loving arms of our Father in Heaven.
There will be a viewing from 10AM to 1PM Friday December 28, 2018 at the Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Avenue, South Orange, NJ. Followed by a brief Catholic service in the chapel. Anne will be interred after the service at Hollywood Memorial Park, 1500 Stuyvesant Avenue in Union, NJ.
Born in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania on August 15, 1918, one of ten children of Adam and Mary Hudek, Anne came to New Jersey at the age of sixteen and settled in the Essex County area. In 1941 she married Henry Masey of Newark, with whom she celebrated forty-eight wonderful years, living more than forty of those years in Maplewood and dedicating her life to her own family, the families of others, the Catholic Church and our Lord.
Once her two sons, Alfred and Roger, grew old enough to be self-sufficient, Anne widened her circle of care to include children whose parents both followed careers and, for all intents and purposes, raised generations of these youngsters, many of whom stayed in regular communication until her passing! She became a familiar fixture at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in South Orange, rarely missing a mass, and often arranging the altar for the priests before the service. Anne joined The Secular Franciscan Order at the church and regularly visited the poor and the elderly, providing comfort for many including the institutionalized.
She deeply loved her 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, more than a few devoted nieces and nephews, and never failed to remember each of them on their birthdays as well as on other special occasions. They were always in her heart and in her prayers. Anne was predeceased by her parents, husband Henry, and youngest son Roger, as well as 8 of her 9 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sister Martha Hoffman, son Al Masey, daughter-in-law Vigi Masey, plus grandsons Chris Masey and Ron McBain, granddaughters Kim Maycroft and Heidi Wisneski, plus all 8 great grandchildren … Abbey, Sarah, Hannah, Josette, Elyn, Julia, Elise, and Michael.
