I worked with Dr. Quillen for many years at Overlook Hospital. It was always a pleasure to work with him as the anesthesiologist for his cases, and you knew you were going to have a good day in the OR when you saw he was performing the surgeries in your OR.

My deepest sympathy to Dr. Quillen's family. I was a patient of his and he was as described "compassionate and caring". I was very sad to hear of his passing at such a young age. May he rest in peace.

My son was born with Syndactyly - a webbing of his left hand. Our pediatrician referred us to Dr. Quillen. Multiple surgeries, innumerable office visits and many years later our son's fingers were separated. He was amazing surgeon, and an immensely kind man. He treated my son like his own and always spent as much time with my wife and I as necessary to answer all of the questions that we would have. We would occasionally run into him in Maplewood and we would always tell our son who this man was and what he did for him. Dr. Quillen would stop whatever he was doing, introduce himself to Ben and look - proudly - at my son's hand. What an amazing life he lived. I cried when I heard of his passing. What he did for my son and our family will be remembered as long as we all live

Dr. Carl Quillen was my friend and colleague. I was the full-time Dental Department Head at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center for 31 years. Carl was the Director of the Division of ENT, Department of Surgery. Early on, we worked together on interdisciplinary surgical protocols which are still NBIMC Rules & Regulations today.
His reputation for his surgical skills were at the highest levels. He was a triple Board Certified specialist. I trusted to him my wife, my sons, myself and many friends.
He mentored new surgeons in procedures and empathetic patient relations. His passing is not the end of his surgical skills. He has passed them on to the next generation of surgeons. I will miss him.
Abraham Speiser, DDS
