I first met Claudio the year he came to Boston at a Berkley event. We spoke and immediately became friends. I was probably at every gig he did around the Boston area. Poo's Pub was a favorite place and we were there every week to see him. He introduced me to my wife Geri at Poo's. We loved his music and him. When he went to NY we sadly lost track. we both had very busy lives but we followed what he was doing.
The world has lost a great musician and a really great guy. God bless Claudio and his family.

While studying for my Masters degree in teaching, I was introduced to Mr. Roditi’s playing on the CD “Thank You John”, a tribute to John Coltrane. My wife had purchased the CD as a gift. I was immediately attracted to Claudio’s sweet tone and impressive technique on a rotary valve trumpet. His playing has become a model for my own jazz playing. Paquito D’Rivera has stated that he never heard Roditi play a wrong note! Thank You, Claudio.

Life is so fast, I was just giving an anecdote to a co-worker about Claudio and I had no idea he has passed. We met and bonded on our shared Sephardic background, he invited me to The Press Room in Portsmouth, NH and was "VIP" :) I had email correspondence for a a couple of years after that until we lost touch. I always said I need to shoot Claudio an email, or phone call but never did. I am so sorry for your loss Roditi family, he touched many lives in his travels.

I met Claudio in Boston at Poo's Pub when he first came here. We were friends and He and I spent many hours in my shop working on a lathe, trying to shape the perfect. mouthpiece. We had fun together many times. I have most of his recordings and will cherish them always. He was a great musician. Claudio was also responsible for me meeting my lovely wife Geraldine. I was very saddened to hear of his passing. My heart goes out to Kirsten and his family. Don Tremblay, Woburn, Mass.

Dear Kristen,
Laurie and I are very sorry for your loss. Claudio was a mentor and a great friend. He stayed with us in Boston many times and we were able to know him and share wonderful times with him. We will miss him a lot. His guidance was always amazing and right on target. Claudio was like a family member: I used to call him Tio Claudio (Uncle Claudio). We'll miss him.
Love from
Laurie and Guillermo Nojechowicz
PS: We'll try to go to NJ this Saturday. Hope to see you. Guillermo.

He was a master musician, who made his horns convey every human emotion, sorrow, joy, trauma, heartache and mischief. However, it was as a man, a sweet, gentle, caring, giving and funny man that he really connected, with audiences, fellow musician, friends and strangers. We were lucky to have known both Kristen and he, to be welcomed in their home as friends and he mentored Herman in his musical quests. His generosity in playing with Herman and his band was tremendous but his warmth, kindness and gentle smile is what we will most cherish.

Concert in West Palm Beach, Florida. Claudio insisted on including me. I first me Claudio at a Jam on Copacbana beach, Rio, in 1969. I was 19 and owned a flugel. He took me under his wing, and became my big brother, best friend and mentor. We shared an apartment in Cambridge Mass, with Vitor Brasil and Claudio Caribe, members from his group in Rio. Later on, we shared a pad in NYC. He was charismatic, dedicated, confident, funny and a total trumpet/mouthpiece maven. Thanks for your blessings

It's hard to believe he is gone. I can still hear his voice and his trumpet.
Claudio was a precious friend and colleague to me. He always treated me as an equal, even though he was a true legend in the world of jazz.
I will miss his friendship, his amazing sense of humor and his one of a kind musical voice.
A truer gentleman never lived.
Goodbye dear friend. I will miss you more than you could have ever known.

We are so sorry to hear of Claudio’s passing. We are praying for Claudio, Kristen, family and friends. I was so lucky to have Claudio for a friend. He was such a kind, generous, talented person who had a great sense of humor. I will miss his phone calls that would start out with him saying “Monsieur Marino Qué pasa”! He has been a major influence in my musical development and well as my personal development. He introduced me to so many people and I am grateful that he took interest in helping me to learn how to play Brazilian jazz. He has touched so many people, he will never be forgotten. I remember during a conversation I thanked him for talking Breno Sauer into giving me lessons on Brazilian jazz which also turned into learning about Tango and other forms of Latin music. Claudio’s response was “Now you’re F#%$ed up for life.” Followed by him laughing. Claudio, I thank you for F#%$ing me up for life because it was the best thing that happened to me! Thank you, my friend!

My deepest condolence to his family and friends. I'm so heart broken. He was the first person who brought me on the stage as a jazz euphonium player in the U.S. He taught me so many things. It was a real honor to be able to work with him. We lost such a wonderful person. I will miss you so much Uncle C.

I am of course heart-broken for the loss of such a beautiful man whom I am honored to have called my friend. His beautiful music and his artistry was but a reflection of the person that he was. Always a smile and always a warm embrace. He was so respectful and inclusive to his fellow musicians. I can't even think of when I first met him because I feel like I have always known him, but I do know that he will always be with me in my heart.

Of course we know what an unsurpassed musician Claudio was, but I cherish most his kindness. He was truly a gentle man. His kindness could never be copied off a record or a performance. His musicianship served only as an expression of the true nature of his being. I will, as we all, always miss him.

I first met Claudio at a friends home some 15 years ago. While all the other musicians at this event in this home we’re busy talking about Gigs and the usual Jazz talk, Claudio realizes I was out of place and sat with me at the kitchen table and just shot the breeze. He was more interested in what I was doing then discussing what he was doing. From that point I become a friend to Claudio. The world has lost a real Jazz legend, one that will never be replaced. a wonderful friend to many and a true gentleman. Rest In Peace my friend.
