I was lucky to meet Joel through our mutual friend, Dan Leary. Joel and I were actually stationed at the same base in Vietnam, but he was out when I was in, and vice versa. So we never met there. But we did meet at our Recon reunions and had good times together. Most notable was a trip to a restaurant in New Orleans in 2000 during one of our reunions. Dan, Joel, and I entertained the restaurant with our "Happy Birthday to Us" song. It was the Marine Corps birthday.
